FAQ

Yes, S&S Roofing has assisted many customers with the insurance claim process. We will help you streamline the process.

Generally, asphalt shingle roofs can last around 15 to 25 years, while metal roofs can last 40 to 70 years or more. Knowing exactly when it’s time to replace your roof can be tricky, but there are some signs that it might be time for an upgrade:
• Missing or damaged shingles
• Curling or buckling shingles
• Leaking ceilings
• Visible water damage in attics or on walls
• Dark streaks running down walls from chimneys or vents
• Moss growth on the surface of the roof
Don’t put yourself at risk. If you spot any of these signs, contact us to assess the integrity of your roof and advise whether it requires repair or replacement.

Choosing the cheapest roofing bid might seem like a good way to save money, but it often leads to higher costs and more headaches down the line. Here’s why:

1. Lower Quality Materials
Cheap bids often use subpar materials to cut costs. Low-quality shingles, underlayment, and sealants may not hold up to harsh weather, reducing the lifespan of your roof and increasing the chances of leaks or damage.

2. Lack of Proper Workmanship
Cheaper bids may come from inexperienced or under-qualified contractors. Poor installation can cause issues like improper flashing, uneven shingles, and inadequate ventilation — all of which can shorten your roof’s lifespan.

3. Limited or No Warranty
Lower-cost contractors may not offer strong warranties, leaving you unprotected if something goes wrong. Reputable roofing companies often provide comprehensive warranties that cover both materials and workmanship.

4. Hidden Costs Later
A lower bid might not include everything you need. Contractors may cut corners by skipping essential steps like removing old shingles, installing proper ventilation, or using quality underlayment — leading to unexpected repairs or replacements.

5. Insurance and Licensing Concerns
Cheaper bids may come from contractors who are not properly licensed, bonded, or insured. If something goes wrong or a worker gets injured on the job, you could be held liable.

6. Shortcuts on Safety and Clean-up
To save time and money, cheaper contractors may not prioritize safety or thorough clean-up, leaving you with a mess and potential hazards.

7. Lack of Customer Support
Cheaper contractors may not have the capacity to provide ongoing customer service, making it difficult to address issues or concerns after the job is done. Or even be in business when concerns / problems arise.

Investing in Quality Pays Off
While a higher bid might seem like a bigger investment upfront, it ensures that you get high-quality materials, expert installation, and long-lasting protection. You’ll save money in the long run by avoiding costly repairs and replacements.

If there’s damage to your roof, it’s important to determine if an emergency roof repair is necessary or if it can wait. If the damage is severe enough to let water into the home, it’s a good idea to have it fixed as fast as possible. If it looks like the forecast calls for more rain in the next few days, it’s better to call for 24-hour emergency roof repair and have the roof fixed now instead of waiting and seeing if the damage gets worse. Leave a voicemail on S&S Roofings emergency line (after hours or weekends) & a staff member will be in touch with you as soon as possible.

Yes, the typical roof inspection costs between $300-400

Yes. It is highly recommended that the homeowner remain available throughout the roof inspection. Although an exterior roof analysis can occur without the homeowner’s presence, the homeowner can provide a point-of-entry if the inspector requires access to interior spaces or other hard-to-reach areas. Also, the homeowner can ask questions and observe the findings.

It’s not recommended to pressure wash an asphalt roof.

Why You Shouldn’t:

  1. Damage to Shingles: High-pressure water can strip the protective granules off asphalt shingles, which shortens their lifespan.
  2. Water Intrusion: Water can be forced under the shingles, leading to leaks and moisture damage.
  3. Voids Warranty: Many roofing manufacturers void warranties if the roof is pressure washed.

Better Alternatives:

  1. Soft Wash Method:
    1. Mix a solution of water, and bleach.
    2. Apply it gently with a garden sprayer or a low-pressure sprayer.
    3. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then rinse with a low-pressure hose.
  2. Hire a Professional:
If the roof has stubborn moss, algae, or lichen, hiring a professional is the safest bet.

• Twice a year: Spring and fall.
• After major storms, to check for damage.

• Most residential roofs take 2-4 days to replace.
• Larger or more complex roofs may take longer.

Yes! A new roof can increase home value and improve curb appeal. On average, it provides a 60-70% return on investment.
